ProtectDefender is yet another recent rogue antivirus application from the wini family. As with many of the other entrants from this family, it is installed through the use of bogus flash updates and purported video codec downloads. Typically a computer user will run across a site that claims to host a well sought after video and when they arrive at the page there is a claim that an extra video codec or flash player update in order to view the video. Armor Defender is the latest rogue antivirus from the wini family of rogues. It takes a bit of a departure from the recent look of their rogues. However, like all of it’s other cousins in the fact that it is promoted by trojan, malware and they masquerade as flash updates that would be required to view a popular online video, but the payload is not a flash update, instead it’s the beginning of quite a bit of frustration as the computer starts to show many popups complaining of viruses on the machine, popups complaining of security deficiencies with the system and as if we couldn’t guess….. it can’t be fixed unless you purchase. Win Security 360 is a rogue antivirus application that is promoted through the use of trojans and other malware as well as sites that claim to do malware scans of your computer. Among the things that it will do is schedule itself to run when the system boots and it will perform a scan. The scan will flag normal windows files as virus infected and will want to remove them. DefendAPC is the latest variation on the Wini family of rogue antivirus. It is typically promoted via the use of trojans, malware and aggressive advertising. Ghost Antivirus is a rogue antivirus application that is the successor to Antivirus Pro. This rogue is pushed through trojan horse activity and aggressive advertising tactics. It makes things very challenging to remove this rogue because it disables task manager, as well as any security programs that it detects. It looks like we’ve been awash in variants of the wini family lately so I’m combining three of the latest rogue antivirus applications in that family into one post. This post will talk about removing APCDefender, removing Sysprotector and Removing InSysSecure and removing SysDefenders. Some of the same steps would be taken for each anyway. The main thing that they have unique are the names of the rogues and the filenames that they make use of once they install on your system. They all of course are from the wini family of rogue antivirus software and are typically promoted through trojan or other malware activity. PCSProtector is a rogue antivirus application from the winisoft family of rogues. They are essentially clones of each other and all resemble each other with the minor modification of the name of the rogue and it’s files. These rogues are typically distributed by trojan horse activity as well as malware on attack websites. They will install themselves on a computer and then launch on startup and start claiming all sorts of security problems with your pc. They will do falsified scans of your computer finding either files that this software has placed or legitimate files and tagging them as being infected with a virus. You know I wrote not too long about about the doublemyspeed.com scam sounding radio ads. It really sounds like MyCleanPC.com is a scam in the sense that it promises a lot but doesn’t (or can’t) really deliver the miraculous results that they claim. Part of the idea is that they are a registry cleaner and claim that cleaning the registry will make your computer as good as new. For most people this really isn’t going to make an old slow pc into a brand new speed demon. From that aspect this is a scam. Over promising and under delivering.

Back in the day I had got a Frontier Labs Audio player… it was the Nexia predecessor to the nexblack. It really was a pretty good music player. It supported compactflash for storage (no interntal storage.) It used double A batteries and had real buttons. MP3 was the primary audio format – they had promised ogg via a firmware update, but the hardware really just wasn’t up to the task. I used it for several years which is not bad for a $40 or so audio player. Unfortunately it has become flakey in it’s performance sometimes failing to boot up when I switched it on and so when I was given $40 for my birthday I thought it might be time to shop for a replacement.
