The dust over the zotob worm infection has settled a bit at this point. (You can bet there are still infected machines out there though so if you haven’t patched yet – DO IT and check for signs of infection.) Among other things, The Security Fix is analyzing the impact.

Zeroday Internet Explorer vulnerability update
The infocon level at incidents.org has been lowered back to green although there is still no patch for this issue from Microsoft and the threat still exists. They like to use the higher level to get attention to an issue, but not leave it on higher alert level for extended periods. They also have noted that Microsoft has updated their advisory.

There was an update at Incidents.org on the Zotob worm and specifically an advisory related to Cisco products.

Another Massive ID theft ring
It looks like Sunbelt has found ANOTHER massive Identity theft ring. They suspect it’s a trojan from the Dumaru family that is contentedly logging the infromation and promise more details.

According to alvarezperea.com, it appears that the writer was told by an employee of the havoc the worm wrecked on the theme park. It seems that most everything is computer controlled from ticket sales, food sales etc. Sounds like it wasn’t a fun day at the Magic Kingdom.

Update on Internet Explorer Zero Day exploit
Yesterday I mentioned a SANS report on a possible zero day exploit against Internet Explorer. Today they have more details in the handlers diary. Among other things SANS has issued a patch for it.

I just read that Microsoft has released an update to the Malicious software removal tool. The updated version is not yet available at Windows or Microsoft update, but from Microsoft’s download center.

Sunbeltblog on how Microsoft can make a Bloggers day…
I’ve been reading the sunbeltblog lately and they have a post related to this latest virus outbreak which is right to the point. Most corporate desktops run Windows 2000 as opposed to Windows XP and Microsoft has been less than “charming” in their response to the issue that many businesses have had with Zotob.
