  • Drupal 7 and E-Commerce

Drupal 7 has become the flagship version of the content management platform. Last year I was setting up a couple of webstores with Drupal 6 and e-commerce modules (addons) for it collectively called ubercart. Ubercart was somewhat complex but things worked. For the rough edges there were other modules to smooth the edges.

Recently I’ve been working with an install of Drupal 7 and building an e-commerce site. Ubercart is available in a testing state for Drupal 7, but many of the developers have left in favor of a module called Commerce. Which also is in a testing state. What follows is a BRIEF summary of my trials and tribulations in building an ecommerce site with Drupal 7.

  • How to Remove ProtectPCs | ProtectPCs Removal Guide

ProtectPCs is a rogue antivirus application from the Wini family of rogues. It will push itself through claims of it being a video codec update or flash player update. Usually these appear on a site that shows up in the search results for whatever latest greatest sought after video clip may be making the top search traffic. Once installed on your system this rogue will pop up many complaints about your system security (or lack thereof) and will claim that many of the files on your computer are infected with viruses. It is important to not purchase this software (as that’s the only way they claim your system will be fixed), but read on for how to remove proctectpcs.

  • How to Remove PC Scout | PC Scout Removal Guide

PC Scout is another rogue application with a similar look and feel to the Windows Security Center. (It’s also apparently a clone of the same family as ActiveSecurity (ActiveSecurity Removal) It likely installs through malware and the use of web popups. Once it’s installed on your system it tries to run at startup and run a scan of your hard drive for supposed viruses. It in fact (shockingly) always finds something to complain about and either exaggerates minor issues or claims you have viral infections when you really don’t. Of course, they can’t be bothered to remove the problems unless you purchase their software. The problem is that purchasing really doesn’t do much but line the pockets of the software writers. Read on for how to remove PC Scout.

  • How to Remove ActiveSecurity | Active Security Removal Guide

ActiveSecurity is a rogue antivirus application that uses graphics to indicate a similarity with Microsoft Security Center. It installs via malware including trojans and brings several files along with it when it installs that it then claims are viral and that in order to clean up the mess the user should purchase the software. Just as with all of these this is a scam and you should run towards a removal of this piece of software whether it’s done personally or by a computer technician. Instructions for how to remove activesecurity below the fold.

  • Finallyfast.com Removal | Ascentive PC Speed Scan Pro

Oh I cringe at those commercials. You know the ones I’m talking about where everyone is whining about how slow their pc is. Wah…. “Mom this game is so slow.” I just LOVE how they mention that their parent company ascentive has been featured in several major publications. (Osama Bin Laden has been featured in many publications too, that isn’t exactly an endorsement.) Well, last night I thought I’d go and look and see what people were saying about this magical mystical piece of software and I wasn’t really surprised to find them being roasted right and left.

McAfee Site Advisor has apparently recently moved the site from the bad guy to the good guy column and is catching all sorts of heat from visitors for that. Many claim that there are browser exploits being served up from their pages. It was on Spyware Warriors list of rogue applications although it has been removed. (Users may note that the removal from the list isn’t equal to an endorsement either.)

    The kicker…

  • Would you like spyware with that? Apple too….

These stories come up from time to time. A free giveaway of some sort and it turns out that there’s spyware or a virus embedded, company gives a big “whoops” and fixes things by replacing them…. McDonalds had a promotion going where up to 10,000 people could win a flash based mp3 player they also received a trojan horse preinstalled…. They’ve apologized and are swapping the infected players and giving information on how to clean up a pc with the keylogger. According to f-secure it was infected with the QQPass password-stealing trojan. Just imagine how things would have turned out if the Greeks had looked that gift horse from the trojans in the mouth first…..
