Security Tool is the latest rogue antivirus application in the family which includes Total Security 2009 (read my how to remove Total Security 2009 guide if necessary.) It is visually similar and like many of these scareware rogues is very similar in many respects with the exception of the name. This particular rogue installs through web popups and trojans. Web popus will likely appear to be running a security scan of your computer and after the scan it insists you need to download and purchase SecurityTool to fix the problems it finds (how original!) Updates – Rogues and Security….
I’ve been running a series of how to remove articles related to some of the current nasty rogue security applications that has really been getting a lot of traffic the last week or so. I can see that there’s definitely demand for more. Frankly, I hate these programs that claim so many problems (that it brings) and offer to fix it if you pay. I’ve made some links to these recent ones at the bottom of my antivirus removal tool page. I’ve also put up a page on ppt security – mostly centered around powerpoint security.
So, what might you expect to see in coming days? I’ll probably be doing some more in the malware removal series because there are some particularly nasty bugs out there and a thirst for some sort of guidance in removing them. I suspect beyond that I will be focusing more on antivirus and firewall areas because those seem to be in the highest demand right now (judging by the traffic I see here.)

Computers without hard drives….
Flexbeta has a story basically about knoppix and how a computer even without a hard drive can still be useful. Knoppix, of course, is a linux live cd that boots into a full desktop operating system. It has many uses, but flexbeta focuses in on some of the basics: web browsing, checking web based email, streaming audio, playing games, editing office documents and downloading files (to a memory stick or some other usb media.)

Daylight savings changes in the works
According to several sources, including a CNN story, it looks as though daylight savings time won’t be quite the same. The House and Senate have agreed on a compromise Energy Bill which will add 4 weeks to daylight savings time. It would start 3 weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March and end one week later, the first Sunday in November. (more…)
