Firefox 1.5.0.4 out….

I haven’t seen news to this yet, just found it on Mozilla.com, but the 1.5.0.4 release of firefox seems to have been released sometime today. (1.5.0.4 of Thunderbird was announced earlier today.) I don’t know how quick Google is at directing to the new version of firefox, but I’ll include a link in this message for those of you that don’t have it…. Firefox is a very nice customizable, free (open source) web browser that I’ve found many people prefer to Internet Explorer for a number of reasons….

There seem to have been fewer and less severe security issues with Firefox. (At least different…) No, it’s not perfect from a security standpoint, but it does seem to be better. This should be a security update release. List of security fixes in this release (12) It appears as though the “Firefox “View Image” Local Resource Linking Weakness” bug (reported at secunia) has been fixed among others that I haven’t seen mentioned before. (Apparently they weren’t publicly disclosed prior to the update.)… also stability “enhancements…” to be found in this release as well.

Tabbed browsing is very useful if you’re like me and have 20 things going at once you’ll like it.

Extensions… there are extensions to do most everything that you just wish your web browser could do, but normally can’t.

I could go on….

I like to see it on systems as an alternate route to the internet. I’ve seen cases were Internet Explorer was so messed up it couldn’t browse the web and then you’re stuck in many ways. If you have Firefox installed it will likely be able to make it to the net unless you’ve got serious network stack/connectivity issues.

Anyway…..

–update 6/2/06–
The Security Fix has coverage this morning…. here on the firefox update. He brings the reminder that the 1.0.x series of Firefox will no longer be supported and has a good link for upgrading from 1.0.x to the 1.5 series. (Backing up your profile information….)
