About 6 months ago I had a customer call with a bit of a crisis. They had deleted some folders in Outlook without realizing the cleared out a few things they NEEDED to keep. Up until then I hadn’t had much opportunity to try to find out what was recoverable, but I discovered there is a pretty easy way to deal with this.

A note for those of you using Google Adsense
You’ve probably noticed the Google Adsense ads throughout the site. I have a couple of tools that I use to monitor adsense and one is a firefox plugin that tracks impressions. This afternoon it went to zero suddenly which had me investigate. It looks as though adsense has changed their reporting just slightly this afternoon.

Debian based distros pursuing LSB standards?
It sounds as though the distributions of Linux based on debian are trying to define a standard base to work from. It looks as though the disunity among various debian derivitives has prompted a move to unify and work towards LSB (Linux Standards Base) compliance to improve their standing compared to other distributions.

The passing of Dr. Bob Moog
CNN and others note the passing of Robert “Bob” Moog today. He was really a pioneer of the synthesizer. He has lived in Asheville for some years. I do recall him demonstrating the different synthesized sounds he could get by combining different waveforms. This was about the time that electronic keyboards were just starting to become popular.

Google Desktop 2
Slow morning computer news-wise. The only thing that’s really caught my eye is the release by Google of Google Desktop v. 2 In addition to it’s desktop search capabilities it adds rss in a sidebar (news, gmail info, etc.) as well as several other features (Improved outlook filtering). It is version 2 BETA so, you might expect a few bugs. There are also plugins available for the new release.

The other day I did a post about Sunbelt mentioning another big identity theft ring. That post that I referred to has been pulled from their site.
I’m not quite sure what to make of this but will keep an eye out to see what else get’s posted there on the matter.
