Wine help

No, not red or white. I’m talking Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) , which allows windows applications to run under linux. One of the sites that I’ve found that has some great tips regarding Wine is Franks Corner. For several years this site has been a good resource of “how to” get things to work whether it’s games, office applications or other software.

Most of the time, I tend towards using Codeweavers Crossover Office or Transgamings Cedaga (formerly WineX), but Franks Corner covers those commercial options, as well as the freely available ones. There are sections at Franks Corner for how-to’s, lists of programs working. Frank’s Corner also has some links to some good wine utilities (one in particular to install a version of Internet Explorer under Linux which is useful for anyone working with web design.)

Most of the software details have directions on how to install the windows application using wine.
