Computers without hard drives….

Flexbeta has a story basically about knoppix and how a computer even without a hard drive can still be useful. Knoppix, of course, is a linux live cd that boots into a full desktop operating system. It has many uses, but flexbeta focuses in on some of the basics: web browsing, checking web based email, streaming audio, playing games, editing office documents and downloading files (to a memory stick or some other usb media.)

I don’t know that there’s anything earth shattering there to those who have already used a livecd, but I suppose there are those that have never heard of the concept. It mentions that Knoppix 3.9 (I need to look at downloading I still have 3.7′s iso laying around on my hard drive…), has OpenOffice 2.0 beta which I haven’t looked at yet. Of course, Knoppix also includes Firefox for web browsing and a slew of other software. I think the article is aimed more at beginners to the livecd concept.
