Wireless ethernet security

Flexbeta has an article giving a good primer on the different approaches to wireless security that are currently available and what seems to be on track for the next generation of wireless networking. One thing that is worth noting, if it’s transmitted through the air it can be intercepted. Breaking the code is just a matter of time and computing power.

With WEP it can take as little as a few moments with a laptop and freely available software for an outsider to break your encryption key and be on your network. I doubt anything will ultimately be unbreakable (although it may be advertised as such.) It sounds like 802.11i will be more secure, but how long will it be until that’s trivial to break?
