  • Great Article on Google search positioning and blogs

I just read a great article at blogbusinessworld I think he’s got the right idea. Essentially, the point of the article is that blogs tend to interlink and form “content specific” communites. Political blogs would be a great example, usually there are a good deal of interlinkings between Political blogs. Since they are usually keyword rich it can help a sites search relevance in google by blogging and linking to (and being linked from) relevant and also highly linked to blogs. (more…)

  • Google Moon

For some time now, I’ve used Google Maps fairly extensively. I love the ability to drag the street maps around and the inclusion of Satellite imagery has been absolutely fantastic and at the same time a bit scary. Of course there’s the ability to do local searches on the map with pushpins of a sort tagging the search hits. Very nice. I’ve even seen gps overlays and ways to pull gps coordinates from a map. Anyway…
Today I saw a news post somewhere that there was a new twist Google Moon Since July 20th was the anniversary (more…)

  • Old posts

I’ve copied over several of the older posts from the ezcontents layout of the site. I think I’ll skip moving the “virus of the moment, watch out for….” posts. The ones that I’ve chosen are a bit more generic and can relate to many viruses (The connection between spam and viruses for instance is as relevant today as it was when I first posted from all I can see…) The bugbear virus on the other hand, hopefully, is probably not relevant these days.

For all the older posts I’ve tried to import them and preserve their original post date so as not to disrupt the flow of more current content. There is one recent post that I haven’t migrated on a recent site outage (due to the move of averyjparker.com to a new server which left mysql clueless until I figured out what it was missing.) I also hope to share the reason for a more recent outage (July 14-15th) in a few more days once all this is settled.

  • Wow

This is an interesting moment… since last night I’ve been tinkering with wordpress. I’ve got it installed in a test directory. This afternoon I spent some time moving old posts over to wordpress from my old portal. I’ve got several plugins installed and I look at the stats plugin I setup earlier this afternoon. I only expected to see my visits there (and my Dad’s, and maybe my brothers, I’d sent them links), other than those, I didn’t expect any visits because, well it wasn’t linked from anywhere else on my site. Apparently the power of “ping” is greater than I thought as it seems I’ve got hits from a few sites and on looking, one of my posts is already in the IceRocket blog search

  • More on the virus/trojan front

I have a couple new things to post. One, in my futher investigation of the server logs, from the last big topic…. (read the entries below.) I’ve discovered at least one MAC, so this should be a warning that no one should take system security for granted. Likely someone has installed a rootkit of some sort on that machine, as I know of no virus or trojan that is cross-platform in it’s ability to be a spam helper.

  • I’m just a bit ill at the moment…..

Yesterday morning I started the day with a check of email —0– 1100 messages… ?? Yes 1100. Most of them were filtered into a folder I set up for delivery failures some time back. (about 950), (about 100 to junk mail and then 50 to the inbox). I started investigating because my usual morning haul is 150 or so with 2/3’s being filtered into a spam folder, the rest being routine messages from scripts on servers I monitor, daily correspondence, mailing list digests/etc….
