I’ve just been back at appointments what – 2 days? And already I’ve got a ton of issues to detail. I usually don’t get into details of everything I run into because many times it’s rather tedious issues, memory install, fill in the blank virus removal for the nth time, etc. However I’ve already run across a few unique things that have taken some searching. One is still unresolved (time constraint.) That will get a revisit in the near future.

Manual Trackbacks
Sometime over the last 2 or 3 days trackback pings stopped working for me. I didn’t notice until today. I think the hexblog may have been the first one to choke the queue, but I’ve spent the evening going back and sending trackbacks manually. There’s a manual pinger at http://www.aylwardfamily.com/content/tbping.asp which is tedious for a couple dozen entries, but it does work.

Busy week
Well last week was technically my “vacation” from computer work…. it didn’t quite turn out that way, but I did enjoy what I got to do, although I would much rather the WMF exploit had not come about. The week is shaping up to be quite busy with regards to appointments, so I doubt you should expect as high a rate of posting as there was last week. I’ll do my best to continue to hit the highlights. Thanks for visiting.

Google Search Boxes
I’ve been tinkering with placement of Google Search boxes on the site. These days, with a google search box in Firefox, I don’t think about the convenience factor of putting it in the page too much, but…. At one point I had the box in the sidebar and it did strange rendering things for Internet Explorer, I think the new placement(s) shouldn’t give any problems.

Happy New Year
I hope that you all enjoy a very Happy New Year. I probably should have had this post go out at 00:00 GMT, but… I thought I’d post it using the server local time….

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
For those that read this I’d like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have several posts scheduled to come out each day through the 1st of the New Year, but will likely not be adding to that unless something big happens. I’ll also be taking the week away from scheduled computer appointments. I’m one of those people that has a hard time setting tasks aside, but this time of year is usually the best opportunity for me to have a week away from the typical routine of chasing computer problems.
I hope that everyone will have an opportunity during this Holiday season to reflect on those things that are truly important which aren’t necessarily those same things that we spend everyday working with.

Category Restructuring
I’ll likely be adding a few more categories to better be able to organize my posts. When I started out with this format, I thought nested categories were a good idea. After seeing them in practice, I’m thinking I may wind up renaming some existing categories so that things maybe will make a bit more sense. Anyway, this is just a “heads up” to let you know that the structure of categories will likely be changing if not this week, after the new year.

Google Adsense changes
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I use Google adsense on these pages. Now obviously I can’t give statistics on how it does, but frankly what I’ve seen in the short time I’ve used it beats any other affiliate-type program I’ve used before. Yes, I’ve received checks from Amazon’s associates program before, but initially there you had to have a different account for each site, so I’ve got several dollars there in each of 8-10 different profiles left over from the “dark ages”…

So many things so little time…..
The last month has been quite busy as is evidenced by so few postings here…. Of course, the majority of what I do is on-site computer service and sometimes that explodes to fill most every moment of most every day leaving little time for “un-necessary” things like this… nothing big seems to be popping today, so I may get to write a few things.

Sorry for the vanishing act
It looks like the site disappeared for a brief time. It looks like my service provider did some maintenance which left mysql looking for a file in a place it doesn’t exist. I’ve done a script which hopefully can deal with it automatically if it happens again, but anyway….
