Manual Trackbacks

Sometime over the last 2 or 3 days trackback pings stopped working for me. I didn’t notice until today. I think the hexblog may have been the first one to choke the queue, but I’ve spent the evening going back and sending trackbacks manually. There’s a manual pinger at http://www.aylwardfamily.com/content/tbping.asp which is tedious for a couple dozen entries, but it does work.

I’ve gone through and tried to clear out any stranded “to_ping” entries and then did a

UPDATE mywordpresstablewp_posts SET to_ping = ”

From phpmyadmin which blanked 30 entries. It didn’t seem to solve it though. It seems as though I’ve had this happen before for a span ( a few days) and then start working again. If anyone has any insight (other than a suggestion to upgrade to 2.0) I’d be glad to hear it.

If there were security issues to fix in 1.5.2 I’d be more eager to upgrade, but I’ve read about 2.0 having trackback problems of it’s own (and I’m waiting to test some of my favorite plugins.)

Any – open thread in case anyone’s run into similar troubles with wordpress 1.5.2 and what (if any) solution you might have found. Basically, when I publish a post with a trackback link and then go back to edit, the trackback hasn’t been sent and is still in the “Send trackbacks to:” field.
