This is one of those projects I’ve been tempted to undertake for some time… Newsforge has an article on Linux on the Linksys wireless WRT54G and WRT54GS routers. The distribution designed for it is openwrt which is an embedded linux flavor.

Phishing test…
So, I’ve talked a good deal about phishing scam emails and I had to read when I found this article at the sunbeltblog. They posted a link to a site with some tips on phishing, as well as a “test your phishing smarts” kind of test at mailfrontier.com.

Another update on the 0day Explorer exploit
Well, it looks like quite a bit took place while I was out on the “zero day exploit front”. It looks as though there is another update at The Sans Institute. The first thing to notice is that they’ve raised their alert level to Yellow over the impending active exploitation of this vulnerability.

Internet Explorer zero-day exploit?
The folks over at The Sans Institute (Incidents.org) are reporting on a possible zero-day ( 0-day ) exploit against Microsoft Internet Explorer. (A zero day exploit is the name given to an exploit of a previously unknown vulnerability.) Their analysis essentially had the machine they were using go to 100% cpu and it did not give the claimed behavior. They’re thinking this may just be an exploit of one of the other vulnerabilities disclosed Tuesday (MS05-038)

Viral turf war
I remember very well the competing worms that came out in early 2004, Netsky and Bagel (Beagle) and to a degree Mydoom as well. One would try to uninstall the other as they fought for control of a pc. They were done by competing gangs and were literally waging a turf war with home (and business computers.) The same seems to be happening with the latest round of plug ‘n play (worms) viruses (bots).
