Transgaming Cedaga 5 due to arrive Tuesday November 8

I’ve just made it back over to the Transgaming site to check in on the release date for cedage 5.0 (formerly transgaming winex). It looks as though Tuesday November 8th at 2am (eastern Time zone (utc – 5)) will be the day they’re counting towards. I looked the other day and couldn’t get to their site, so I wondered if the release had already happened. It appears not so, and hopefully they’re bracing their servers for the release.

I’ve found no details on what to expect from cedaga 5, none officially, the transgaming.org forums run rampant with speculation. For the uninformed, transgaming cedaga is a “flavor” of wine that’s designed to allow linux users to install and run windows games (many of which require directx). The list of games is growing although some people experience has been mixed. I’ve had pretty good experience with a short list of games in some cases having better performance under linux than windows (frames per second/dual boot system test a few years back.)

It may be that version 5 is getting named such just for the fact that it seemed like the thing to do (codeweavers released 5….), but it could be they’ve got a big leap forward that’s coming out. Who knows??? I hope it’s the later and will try to pass along details as soon as I get a chance to try it out.
