Phishing – Bank of the West Notice take two… (deeper sigh)
Well, I’m trying. The first post I did on the Bank of the West phishing email I was somewhat down because there are people in the world that do phishing scams. Now I’m down because the company that has the site on it’s servers has not responded and around 48 hours after initially reporting it to them, it is still there. Unfortunately it looks like a LARGE number of people have given account information. Again, I can’t be certain, but it appears that way.
I took the next step this afternoon and contacted their ISP, which maybe I should have included from the start. I just assumed that I was contacting the right people. At this point my assumption is 1) no live body at that business receives email addressed to abuse@theirdomain 2) the main domain site is a front and it’s only meant to appear as though they’ve been hacked as they’re in on the phishing scheme or 3) they don’t really care. Either way it’s depressing. They are in a different timezone from here and I expect it’s the first half of the workday Tuesday where they’re based, so hopefully their ISP can sort things out in short order.
It’s hard to sit and watch people be fleeced though. It’s so frustrating. I’ve done all I know to do at this point. Maybe they’ll be able to track the phishers once it gets shutdown.
