IE7 coming within the month, Firefox 2 RC2 out as well
It’s kind of interesting to get to do a “browser wars” kind of post where I mention a new release of two browsers coming out about the same time…. The release of IE7 is coming within weeks we are reminded by zdnet. It’s noted that it will be rolled out through automatic updates not long after it’s official release. Incidents.org is less than enthusiastic about the release suggesting that no matter how much of an improvement over IE6 this new release will be it’s bringing us features that have been in competing browsers since 1996 and diversity of browsers is a good policy.

Microsoft releases official VML patch!!
The big news this afternoon is that Microsoft HAS gone out of the routine patch cycle to release a security fix for the VML vulnerability that’s been actively exploited in recent days for everything from sneak keylogger installs to massive spyware installs. Sans has a few links, if you de-registered the affected DLL you should consider re-registering the same so that you’ll be able to view/access vml content in the future. Here’s Microsoft’s technet Security Bulletin on the matter. (Visit update.microsoft.com if it’s not automatically downloaded for you.) It should be noted that the RC of IE 7 was not affected by this vulnerability.

Firefox 1.5 RC3
News is coming out that Mozilla Firefox 1.5 RC3 is now available. There’s coverage at mozillazine.org. From the comments there may be a few bugs to work out still, although I’ve just skimmed. I’m not sure if those comments are from people that have tried RC3, or are asking if a bug has been fixed since RC2.
