  • Sharing contacts between Outlook and Outlook Express

Not too long ago I was installing a fax machine for someone that supported Outlook Express’ addressbook, but not Outlook’s default addressbook. My first thought was to get Outlook (2002)/Outlook Express using the same contact format and then we’d be in business… But…, they had an exchange server so, Outlook was installed in Corporate/Workgroup mode, which means, officially “you can’t get there from here.” But…. there is still a way. Details from slipstick.com, it turns out there is a registry edit that can get you around the Corporate/Workgroup “limitation”. • Outlook Express Cumultaive Security Update KB837009 will not install

I’ve run into this in the last few days too. (In spite of the fact that it’s an OLD update (April 13, 2004?) MS04-013…. I think on the last visit (and my first one to this machine) we had probably forced a visit to Windows update (which I think it may not have seen before…) Anyway, this is a Windows 98 system and the last update probably brought along Internet Explorer 6 SP1 along with Outlook Express. What is the point is this…. When you have a Windows pc that is infested what you should do is disconnect from the internet. The problem is, that typically prevents you from getting the tools you need to fix the machine.

  • Outlook express pet peeve #375

Migrating Outlook Express data from one machine to another. Addresses are easy to export… file export Address Book gives a good option to CSV (comma seperated value) output. Which is a nice common denominator. (WAB/PAB output wouldn’t hurt.) But, File, Export, Messages only let’s you dump your Outlook Express messages into Exchange/Outlook. (!) Now, this is a pet peeve I’ve had for sometime with Outlook Express. There are just too many places to tell people to look for their data.

Okay, in a previous post I talked about a server side solution for junk mail filtering. Now it’s time to ask…. “what if I can’t install filtering software on our mailserver?” Here is one way to deal with the answer… (more…)
