I should say that George Ou has been trying to put to rest some of the concerns people have about “will xyz program run on vista”. The All About Microsoft blogpost on virtual PC seems to have started all this. I should say that virtual machines seem to be a good way to make sure that whatever “ye olde application” doesn’t work perfectly well in a new OS can still run. (I have a couple of old DOS applications that I’ve revisited this way.) (By the way, this is a question many people ask whether it’s a new version of windows or if they run other Operating Systems..) I was a bit more interested to read about some of the licensing terms for the various Vista flavors…

Firefox zero-day vulnerability (or is it?)
I saw a comment somewhere else that zero-day was overused and in essense ANY previously unknown vulnerability in open source software is technically zero day… the intent here though is to use the word in this context…. “vulnerability has been released without giving the vendor an opportunity to patch…” Yes, the fun vulnerability weekend seems to be continuing – there’s a javascript zdnet has coverage it’s “impossible to patch” (?) from the individuals that have publicized it. The announcement came at Toorcon.

64 bit chips will soon be required for Microsoft Software
CNet is reporting that Microsoft will require 64bit processor for upcoming server applications and Operating Systems. Amonge these, Exchange 12, Longhorn Server R2 and a small business version of Longhorn Server will ONLY be available for x86 64-bit processors. (Longhorn Server R2 is expected ~2009, although Exchange 12 is expected late next year (late 2006).
