  • Google Wins Bidding War for Dell Desktop Placement

    Google has apparently won a pricey bidding war in the race to have their software bundled with new Dell PC’s over the next 3 years. Essentially, I suspect this means, Google Desktop (perhaps Google Pack?) will be preinstalled, as well as browser settings adjusted to make a Google-ified search page the default and probably Google as the default search provider for the browser. They apparently dug in their heels and were determined to win the bidding after seeing the built in search box in IE7 which is in Beta….

  • Big block of blank space in Add/Remove Programs

    This isn’t an earth shattering issue, but as I was looking into some other problems on a Windows XP Pro system, I noticed a HUGE blank space in the Add/Remove programs area of the control panel. It was something like this, there were several entries (10 maybe) and then a huge block of blank space perhaps hundreds of “pages” long. I scrolled a bit with the mouse wheel and was not making quick progress, so just grabbed the scroll bar and pulled down to see the next 30-40 entries.

  • Shortwave Listening – Noise

    We don’t live in a quiet world, cars, equipment, alarms, fans, tv’s radios, etc. etc. etc. We have a very noisy Radio Frequency world as well. All sorts of electronic devices can add to the cacophony that is natural RF noise. In my shortwave listening I’ve “crusaded” against RF noise in the house where at all possible and had pretty good results. I mentioned in an earlier post about a couple of “random wire” antennas I’d setup and the one wrapped around the house picked up quite a bit of noise.

  • Spyware is bad….

    Surprise… what is surprising is how high it’s infiltration is reported to be. Spyware confidential is reporting on a Webroot survey claiming that spyware in the enterprise is at 80% (does this mean 80% of businesses have spyware, or 80% of business machines have spyware?)
