  • Google Analytics Feature Tease

I just logged into my analytics account over at google and had a strange new view. It showed all the sites in my account with a summary of the code working, traffic up or down and percentage. It looked quite nice, so I tried changing the view so I could see all of my sites and …. it went away. I’m back to the old view. So, I started looking around and found this analytics blog post that talked about new features being rolled into the accounts. The new features include that new account management dashboard. I hope that returns soon to my account because I would LOVE to have a nice “at a glance” view of all my sites.

I figured out what I was seeing – I have two google logins, both of which have access to my analytics account. One can see the new beta features, the other can’t.

  • WordPress Stats plugin not updating – fix

There are a lot of good things to like about the newer versions of wordpress. It seems to keep getting better. One of the really cool plugins is the WordPress.com stats plugin. This lets you have a nice simple stats interface accessible from your Dashboard on your wordpress blog. (It uses wordpress.com to track stats, so you’ll need a wordpress.com account to be able to use it. I set up a wordpress.com account some time back to be able to use the akismet plugin and the same key that you have for akismet can be used for the stats plugin.) You essentially upload the stats.php file into your wp-content/plugins folder, enable it in the plugins list, then enter your API key in the configuration page for stats. That’s all that should be to it, but I’ve noticed sometimes that’s not all it takes to get things going.

  • WordPress plugin stattraq speedup

I’ve made mention I think that I use the stattraq plugin for wordpress as one of the ways to see where traffic is coming from on the site, etc. etc. etc. I think I mentioned it as one of my stat tracking tools about the time Google Analytics limped out of the gate… Anyway.. one of the things that had bugged me about it for some time was that it was SOOOOO slow to pull up any information (maybe a minute to pull in the page?) I had noticed a performance tip from the author…

  • Google indexing weirdness

In looking at my Google Analytics info…. I checked on the Northcarolinagenealogy.net site’s stats and found that it’s really dropped since about Friday or Saturday from decent traffic to next to nothing. (20 visitors a day now.) The first thing I noticed was no google.com referrers…. So, I started looking and sure enough the last Google search visitor arrived Friday. So, I started investigating further site:northcarolinagenealogy.net brought up nothing (as did site:www.northcarolinagenealogy.net).

  • Another Google analytics update

It still looks like Google Analytics may be adding those that requested to be emailed when signups were available. I’ve noticed the last couple days the stats are MUCH more recent. It’s currently 20:00 hours “Google time” on December 1, 2005 and I see stats for my site through 15:00 “google time” in the analytics summary. So that’s pretty good, if it can be within 6 or so hours I’d say they’re doing pretty well.

  • Serving up web ads to users with javascript disabled

Well, with all the news on the Explorer bug, I started wondering what affect this would have on people browsing sites with adsense. I mean, adsense relies on javascript, so if it’s disabled, no adsense right? Right… Of course, adsense is not the only advertising program that uses javascript. (Of course, there are a number of other things, web counters like google analytics, etc….)

  • More google news sitemaps….

What are they trying to prove??? Okay, Google Analytics rolled out (slowly) earlier this week and is just now catching up on reporting data. It looked like one of the rockiest initial Google releases to date. This morning came the news of Google Base a way to submit and search, well, sets of information that you’d commonly see in a database. NOW, this afternoon I read that Google Sitemaps has added statistics and tracking information….

  • Google Analytics under the microscope

I’ve spent some time this evening looking at Google Analytics. (Now the data is being collected.) And I’ve got to say I’m impressed with the scope of what I’m seeing. First, since last night, more stats have been collected, there seem to be some missing from today yet (maybe ~12 hours behind at the moment). When I signed up, I went ahead and created profiles for 4 websites that I run to have some different things to look at. I’ve spent about 30-45 minutes looking through the stats for just one of those.

  • Google Analytics stats start to trickle in

I’ve just logged back in at 1:11 AM EST, 11/16/05 and am seeing the stats from the 14th come in, some from the 15th. It looks like Google Analytics is starting to catch up. I suspect they’ve been working overtime to try and beef up the server resources dedicated to this project, hopefully things will continue to improve. I hope the former paying customers are going to get good treatment here….

  • Google Analytics update

Well, I mentioned the release of Google Analytics yesterday which really looks promising. At this hour I can still say it looks promising. I had a funny thought after trying several times yesterday to get set up… it was a “good going, you just broke google” kind of thought. It was pretty clear that demand was VERY high for the service (what they’ll be providing for free used to be a fee service.) But it looks like Google has been really caught off-guard by the demand. As I don’t have any data yet, and it appears I’m not the only one.
