Now that the April patches have been patched…. it’s time to look forward to what updates we’ll be seeing from Microsoft this coming Tuesday May 9th… There are 3 expected updates for May, 2 for Windows and one for Exchange Server. The Exchange update is listed as critical as is AT LEAST one of the two Windows patches.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday January
Sounds like this patch Tuesday will have a couple of updates in spite of the early release of the WMF vulnerability fix. Thanks to Microsoft for yielding that fix as soon as the testing was done. I would hope that it wasn’t just public pressure, but a sense of what the right thing to do is when there are exploits actively targeting a vulnerability.

Monad will not be in Windows Vista
I wrote earlier about “proof of concept” viruses that targeted Monad, the next generation command shell from Microsoft. There had been talk that Monad would ship with Windows Vista and so some people were saying these “proof of concept” virii were the first to target Vista. Well, according to the Microsoft Security Response Center Blog that is wrong, Monad will not ship with Vista so these aren’t Vista viruses. I thought most of the articles I had seen had made it clear that it was uncertain when Monad would be available, possibly Vista (now we know it won’t). (The next Exchange Server release?)
