Jungledisk – online backup solution

Monday, October 20th, 2008

How many online backup solutions ARE there now? Anyway I’ve seen another cross platform solution in JungleDisk. It’s available for Windows/Mac and Linux and uses Amazon.com’s storage as a backend. The software itself is free you just pay for the storage you make use of. (15 cents per GB using Amazon’s S3 service.)    Send […]

Visualizing 4 spatial dimensions

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’ve always had more than a passing interest in astronomy and physics… so when I found reference to this video series explaining how to visualize four spatial dimensions. Multiple spatial dimensions are the domain of math, but I’ve always suspected that the universe has 4 spatial dimensions… anyway interesting stuff to think about.    Send […]

Need to install Ubuntu linux on an HP Pavillion a6400f?

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Linux does quite well on this machine, but there is a problem with the built in ethernet (gigabit adapter). The hardware appears to be detected correctly, but the network card doesn’t really work with the driver. Thankfully it’s a fairly easy fix… thanks to the ubuntu forums.    Send article as PDF

Megaupload alternative

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I guess the better way to put this is that this is an alternative way to download from megaupload. megaupload.com is a file storage site. If you pay them you can have unlimited downloads, but normally they limit downloads to single ip addresses. (As well as limiting simultaneous downloads.) I’m not certain of the ins […]

Alfa 500mw usb wireless

Monday, September 15th, 2008

I’ve seen some high powered wireless cards from Senao, but… 500mw I think is the most powerful wireless radio I’ve seen. This Alfa USB adapter appears to require 2 (!) USB ports for full power, but it can use just 1. It also appears that this is a USB wireless adapter compatible with linux (even […]

The full details are as follows An Exception OE has Occured at 0028:C004EA3A in VxD VCACHE(01) + 0000019A. … Was Called From 0028:C004BD2E […]

BBPress 0.9x | WordPress compatible forum software

Monday, June 16th, 2008

As you know I’ve used wordpress as a platform for many of my sites. It makes updating and adding information so quick and easy (as well as great extensions available for it and good theme possibilities.) Anyway, I’ve wanted forum functionality on a few sites as well and so I installed bbpress v. 0.8 some […]

Good USB ThumbDrive – Kingston 8GB DataTraveler

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Just thought I’d do a quick post – I’ve had kind of a poor track record in ordering USB thumb drives lately. I ordered one which I absolutely hate… it was about the size of one of those small pieces of gum and didn’t have the proper USB adapter on there so all you do […]

What Should you Look for in a New Computer?

Monday, March 10th, 2008

This is one of the questions that I deal with at least weekly. Here’s where I usually start answering… First you have to ask yourself what you want to do with a computer. If your goal is email and internet access, most ANYTHING sold new today is much more than sufficient to the task. It […]
