This is a great lead from Spyware Confidential. There is a relatively new site out and about called eulascan.com. They allow user submitted comments on EULA’s (End User License Agreements). Of course, EULA’s are the terms and conditions that pop up on installing software and (these days) appear on the packaging of everything from software to electronics to books.

Adsense Firefox referrals available for those outside the US
For those of you using adsense for your sites outside of the U.S. I’ve just read that adsense firefox referrals are now available internationally. This is coming from the official Google adsense blog. The referral program was opened up in the last month offering site/content owners to add referral links into their content alongside the traditional ad blocks, or ad links. The rollout of the referral service was initially in the U.S. for Firefox referral’s. Google also launched referral links for it’s adsense program. The payout varies for each program, but the Firefox referrals can pay up to $1 each.

Your own astromech – R2-D2
If you’ve always wanted your own astromech, it won’t be too much longer to wait. A voice activated R2-D2 will be available next year from Hammacher Schlemmer. It runs on 4 AA and 4 D cell batteries and will sell for ~$120. According to the article it responds to voice commands, can run in “sentry mode” to guard a room (alert if movement), etc…

Dutch record store chain switching to Novell linux with KDE
The dot has an article on a Dutch record chain switching some 1000 desktops over to Novell Linux with the KDE desktop. The Kiosk mode in KDE has been helpful in locking down certain settings and creating a nice controlled environment. It sounds like Point of Sale is the biggest use, although the store manager makes use of one as a workstation to access information from the cash registers.

Worldnic DNS server outage teaches lesson…
Incidents.org has a post on a DNS server outage for Worldnic. Which effects a number of Network Solutions customers. Apparently they’re aware of the problem and are working on a fix. It doesn’t affect EVERY Network Solutions customer, there are some specifics…
To clarify the impact to the casual reader:
Not all customers of Network Solutions are affected.
No root or TLD servers are known to reside on these machines.
It’s “just” individual domains that are affected, but it might be a lot of them.
Only domains that have all their namervers on these machines will have significant impact.

Keep in shape while playing video games
Couldn’t pass this engadget entry up. It’s a treadmill for first-person shooter games. The idea is that the characters walking/running speed is controlled by the speed of the player walking on the treadmill. Some of the FPS I’ve seen take hours to get through all the levels, or to get “fluent” in. I would think you’d be in pretty good shape going this route.

Google accepting new signups for Analytics again
Well, Analytics is still getting up to speed. For the last week or so, new signups at the new Google analytics site had been suspended (and they suspended existing users from adding a site for monitoring.) Now It looks as though they’ve started adding new signups. The writer at the ZDnet blog, Googling Google suspects that they’re catching up on those that left email addresses for an invite when the service went live. (I imagine this may be one reason Gmail had an invite only policy for so long, afraid of being swamped with demand.)

One alternative to Google Book (formerly Google Print)
Search Engine watch has reported on a less controversial alternative to the Google Book Search (formerly Google Print). Less controversial, of course from the standpoint of Book publishers and those with concerns about Google’s potential for their size and leverage.

Sounds under the creative commons license – freesound
The last post was disabling unwanted sounds on a laptop running Mandriva 2006…. this is about an archive of Creative Commons licensed audio free for the downloading. The Freesound project boasts a collection of over 10,000 sounds. Mostly sound effects of various types. (Thunder, rain, record scratch, hens, etc. etc.) So, if you’re looking for some sound effects to customize your desktop or…
