Time to start cleaning out sites – the internet’s getting too full….

Or at least Google may be…. stories here and here. The way the Register puts it is that Google is in an arms race with blog spammers, with tools out that can create 100 blogs in 24 minutes and shops that can provide mass numbers of private label articles, they contend that google is drowning in the spam so to speak. I can’t help but connect it (as they do) with the changes related to the Big Daddy update which really seemed to mark a drastic change in search rangings for some of the pages on this site. Search terms that had for a time done quite well for me (page 1) dropped an average of 3-4 pages almost overnight (literally over two nights).

I’m not sure if that’s because spam pages came in and filled the spots “in front” or because the page rank changed (amazingly my page rank seems as high as it’s ever been (main page has pagerank of 4 which a couple months ago would have been a 2).

They also play up the fact that in their quarterly report it was said that they had a “machine crisis” and their machine’s were full up…. I don’t know that’s QUITE true and perhaps is a bit out of context, but…. is it time to suggest everybody delete a few messages out of gmail? maybe a couple posts from their website to give them a chance to catch up????

What’s as irritating to me with Google is I recently discovered three sites with INCORRECT cache information. (I mean a completely different site) I sent a note to google asking them to look into the situation. They answered that I should check and verify the text doesn’t exist on the sites (no it doesn’t – COMPLETELY DIFFERENT) and beyond that they couldn’t find the sites that I mentioned with any cache information and I looked today and, guess what, 2 of the sites are absolutely gone, vaporized from google’s index. (What’s more the cache on other pages is sometimes 6 months out of date – prior to big-daddy it was always within a week).

I’m afraid the turmoil of big-daddy which I first noticed in early March, may continue for some time.
