So many things so little time….

I feel like I’ve done this article so many times in the past…. there are so many things I’m hoping to post and time seems to evaporate before my very eyes. This afternoon I hope to be posting a few things that have been on that list. I also have a few other projects that I’ve been VERY eager to get a start on, which may happen this afternoon (or in whatever’s left of it.) As of late, of course, I’ve been trying to not work through the day, into the evening and late into the night. My pattern of filling all my free time between and after appoinments trying to make posts was quite tiring, maybe I can at some point try to find a balance where I’m not investing toooo much time chasing stories that are already out there.

Of course, with the daylight savings change there’s more light in the evenings and the weather here has become much more springlike. That also makes it hard to sit at the computer in those little “gaps” of time.

One of the greatest dangers I see of being self employed is how easy it can be to be an obsessive work-a-holic…. I’ve had a tendency to go through phases of high-work load followed by somewhat of a burn out where I just keep up with scheduled appointments. Not all work that needs to get done is billable (oh if only it were….) Usually the high-work load times are spent installing and testing software, at one point I spent a good amount of time working on a few live-cds to carry with me. At other times it’s been learning about administering a specific mail server or web server or fileserver or….. whatever gap I feel like I have in my understanding of computer stuff… Usually it’s driven by a need to know… i.e. “I’m going to have to make this work next month I need to make sure I know everything possible about it.”

Of course, other times the work-a-holism kicks in and has me working on 4 websites trying to build content and traffic, and then yet other times that effort goes into something that doesn’t resemble my true work as much – maybe in the yard, etc… But right now there are so many things I’m eager to get moving on – some of the most important of these, the only thing that’s stopping me is a good stretch of time. At some point I think I’m going to have to set a goal for how many posts per week on average I’m going to try and devote time for on these sites – I know that’s varied wildly, from 0 for a month up to 20 a day at stretches.

Anyway, thanks for indulging my ramblings a bit….
