New X.org release provides more 3d drivers for ATI cards

According to Barrapunto and Linux Juegos (Spanish for Linux Games), the release of “X.org 7.0 RC0” (RC zero?)…. will provide more 3d graphics drivers. “Outstandingly improved support for 3d acceleration” especially for ATI cards is how I interpret the news….

X.org is the successor to XFree86 in most linux distributions. Essentially the new free ATI drivers are better than the ones released by ATI and cover more cards. Support for the VIA Unicrome chipset (for onboard video in some system boards) and the first 3d accellerated SiS driver are included in the upcoming release. The VIA Unicrome driver was engineered with the help of the manufacturer (good to see them taking Linux seriously…) and includes 3d accelleration.
