  • MSN Virtual Earth neat tricks

    I’ve spent some time covering some of the neat implementations of Google Maps and Google Earth, I’ve just come across a site that has similar uses for Microsoft’s MSN Virtual Earth. The site is called viavirtualearth.com and not only links to examples of neat things people have done using Virtual Earth, but also articles and how-to’s on implementing some of your own neat-tricks.

    At this point, I still find Google maps easier (more intuitive?) to navigate in some of these (I tried a Ufo-maps link which offers both virtual earth and google maps overlays.) That could just be because I’ve used Google Maps more at this point.

  • Australia to ask Google Maps to pull images over security concerns

    According to this article, Australia will ask Google to pull satellite photos of its only Nuclear plant. It’s worth noting that several locations in the US Capital are either reduced resolution or blocked out with solid colors. Now that we live in an era of private satellite imagery are services like MSN’s Virtual Earth and Google’s Maps giving away TOO much information?

  • MSN Virtual Earth erases Apple?

    Well, since I did the summary of MSN’s new Virtual Earth and compared it to Google Maps. I find this article at The Register that notes that Apple’s Cupertino headquarters is missing from Virtual Earth’s satellite Imagery. They make a bit about how Google Map’s satellite imagery displays it, while MSN doesn’t. (more…)

  • Virtual Earth at MSN

    Well, I’ve said good things about Google maps, so when I saw that Microsoft had rolled out Virtual Earth I wanted to take a look. I’ve been trying to get in for a little while. I think it’s still very beta-ish, so well give a pass on availability. I like the wider satellite and map view that you can get. They take advantage of a bit more screen real-estate in their overheads. (more…)
