Microsoft had a mammoth patch Tuesday this month with 28 bug fixes (23 critical). (Computerworld article linked above. This is one of the largest update releases in five years (!) Those fixes were wrapped up in 8 updates for Internet Exporer, Office, Sharepoint, Windows media player and visual studio and Visual basic. (Oh and it looks like there are two more they SHOULD have fixed – reports of 0-days in the wild.)

Exploit Thursday – this months winner – Powerpoint
The SecurityFix reminds us of what usually comes close behind Patch Tuesday…. exploit Wednesday or Thursday and this month, the exploits seemed to start coming out Thursday. There’s a new Powerpoint exploit starting to make the rounds right on the heels of Patch day. The main goal is likely to get the most mileage out of the exploit before the NEXT patch Tuesday. Microsoft is reported to be investigating the reports of this vulnerability.

Two critical fixes from Microsoft on December patch Tuesday
December’s rendition of Microsoft’s monthly Patch Tuesday will feature two critical security fixes. The malicious software removal tool will also be updated…
Additionally, Microsoft will issue two non-security high-priority updates through Windows Update and Software Update Services, and three non-security high-priority updates through Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services. It is standard Microsoft procedure to not disclose the nature of the updates beforehand for security reasons.
