According to this article, Australia will ask Google to pull satellite photos of its only Nuclear plant. It’s worth noting that several locations in the US Capital are either reduced resolution or blocked out with solid colors. Now that we live in an era of private satellite imagery are services like MSN’s Virtual Earth and Google’s Maps giving away TOO much information?

Google Maps hybrid map seems more complete
A short while back, I compared MSN Virtual Earth and Google Maps, one of the things I noted was that the hybrid feature of MSN’s map was somewhat more complete, however I found a few errors. (The hybrid feature has a satellite image with road names and outlines superimposed over top.) I just noticed that the area I had looked at for comparison has improved on the Google Maps site, there is now more detail available. In fact, it’s complete in comparison to the standard map feature of the site.

Microsoft launches start page test to compete with Google’s start page
When I first saw the MSN search page I had to smirk. It reminded me much of the Google search page. It was a nice “clean” layout, take away the blue background and the similarities would be greater. Of course my first thought was. “OK they’re copying google.” or at least their style. Next

Google Earth for linux?
I’ve mentioned Google Maps several times. *(Microsoft VirtualEarth recently jumped into competition)* Essentially you can browse, search and drag around road maps on the screen, or switch to a satellite view of an area, or even a hybrid mode where you can zoom, click and drag a satellite image with mapping super-imposed. Searches place objects on the map or satellite view with an arrow and “thought bubble” type description. There are even ways to find specific gps locations and to pick gps coordinates from the Google Maps.
What I’m typing about now though is Google Earth. Google bought a company called Keyhole that made all this imagery possible. Keyhole sold a small client that pulled the satellite data real time from the web and allows some neat pluses (better zoom levels), tilting of the map for a different angle view. Google has renamed the product Google Earth and a free version is available for Windows.

Virtual Earth at MSN
Well, I’ve said good things about Google maps, so when I saw that Microsoft had rolled out Virtual Earth I wanted to take a look. I’ve been trying to get in for a little while. I think it’s still very beta-ish, so well give a pass on availability. I like the wider satellite and map view that you can get. They take advantage of a bit more screen real-estate in their overheads. (more…)

Google Maps – Satellite with Roads overlay
Wow, I’ve been hoping for this for quite a while. Of course, I’ve mentioned that I use Google Maps quite a bit. They have had a satellite view and regular map view which has been invaluable. Sometimes though, I’ve wanted to overlay the road maps on top of the satellite to just make sure that I’m looking at the right road. Well now there is…Look at this (more…)

Google Moon
For some time now, I’ve used Google Maps fairly extensively. I love the ability to drag the street maps around and the inclusion of Satellite imagery has been absolutely fantastic and at the same time a bit scary. Of course there’s the ability to do local searches on the map with pushpins of a sort tagging the search hits. Very nice. I’ve even seen gps overlays and ways to pull gps coordinates from a map. Anyway…
Today I saw a news post somewhere that there was a new twist Google Moon Since July 20th was the anniversary (more…)
