Linux devices has a story on the Linksys WRT54G wireless routers. The WRT54G has been known for quite a while to be running linux and a community has sprouted up with customized software to add many neat features to the access points. However, Linksys is moving to VxWorks as the operating system for the routers in a move that will cut memory and flash sizes installed. (VxWorks is more of an embedded OS and many other network hardware makers have made the move.)

Macromedia flash player vulnerability
A severe security vulnerability has been found in versions of the Flash Player prior to 7.0.19.0 Many sites require flash player in order to view various features on the site (depending on the site this ranges from commercials to the site navigation.) A specially crafted swf file on a remote website could allow the attacker to run arbitrary code (anything they want) on the local machine. In other words this could be an avenue for viral/spyware infection or trojan activity.

Klax linux livecd with KDE 3.5 Alpha Screenshots
I’ve just seen a slideshow at osdir of screenshots of the Klax KDE 3.5 Alpha livecd. It looks like a pretty good tour, nice screenshots (and the images should be a quicker download than the cd.) It looks very nice (a bit of eyecandy). More flash than I have come to expect from Alpha releases.

Making flash animation under linux
According to barrapunto.org, there is a new entry in the toolset of making flash animation under linux. It’s called Qflash and looks as though it’s in the early stages, but supports swf output. This is a category of tool that is sorely lacking under native linux programs and a welcome addition.
