  • Apple Macbook pro and other wireless fixes

    Do you remember the big bruhaha a month or so back about the “apple wireless vulnerability” that everybody picked apart because in the video taped demonstration they used a third party card…. EVEN though the demonstrators stated that the same vulnerability existed in Apple’s own driver some on the internet tore one reporter up over stating that because Apple denied being shown exploit code (slight semantic issue there…) Well… those driver vulnerabilities that must have not existed, were fixed today by Apple.   • Microsoft Update day for September…. AND Flash… AND Apple

    Yesterday, of course, Microsoft released it’s monthly patches. I found the Windows update site to be painfully slow (and in some cases unresponsive.) It wasn’t quite a huge update day by recent standards, but here’s the summary…. Incidents.org has a nice chart showing the two re-released patches (one is actually re-re-released…) They are MS06-040 (server service patch – critical) and MS06-042 (IE 6 patch). Both of those vulnerabilities addressed are well known and could be actively exploited. The “first release” updates from this month affect Microsoft Queue System MS06-052 which is the most important of the releases….

  • Mandriva 2006

    Of course, another bit of news the last couple of weeks was the release of Mandriva 2006 by Mandriva Linux. Of course Mandriva is the former Mandrake, which merged/bought Connectiva and then acquired Lycoris, so this is the first release to start drawing on the extended talent pool that they’ve now acquired. From what I’ve seen it looks VERY nice. I’ve got the isos on a removable hard drive and have been looking for a chance to get the install going on my laptop.

  • Infocon Green and apple updates

    The Sans institute (incidents.org) has returned to infocon green. Explaining that there are no fundamentally new variations on the exploits that were circulating and the situation is fairly static. (No big moves in infected machines/port scanning activity.) Also, they note that Apple has released several updates. They effect 10.3.9 and 10.4.2 The updates can be found at Apple support.

Mighty Mouse does give some interesting features, up-down and left-right scrolling from the same wheel. It’s also programmable and has nice styling. It sells for $49 US
