$20 cell phones?

Cnet news is reporting a breakthrough in chip design that could reduce the cost of cell phones to the $20 mark. The chip design combines the function of several chips in just one.

Now, in the U.S., I’m thinking for many this doesn’t sound like a big deal (free phone with service, $20 with service already), but for developing markets this will be a big deal as it will drastically cu tht ecosts. The design was done at a plant in India. The article also mentions the first cellphone completely produced in India from design to fabrication.
