Make panoramic pictures with a digital camera (or any other)
There’s another great article at newsforge this evening. I remember seeing some time back a camera which took panoramic pictures. The photographer would hold it steady over his head and the camera would slowly circle around to get a 360 degree photo. In fact I think I remember seeing a large group picture where someone played with the idea and ran around to be in the picture twice.
It’s possible though, with linux software and either a traditional film camera (scanned images) or digital images to get a similar effect. The program is called Hugin. Hugin basically is a user friendly GUI that brings together several tools. You can select certain control points that correspond in several pictures and the program passes the work along to another utility to stitch things together. (Hugin works with Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.)
The finished product is very nice and I am eager to give this one a try. Living in Western North Carolina there are a LOT of panoramic views that a single 800×600 or 1024×768 image just don’t do justice to.
