Sunbelt acquiring Kerio Personal Firewall
Kerio Personal firewall will be acquired by Sunbelt according to the sunbeltblog. It looks as though the acquisition will be complete within a month. They hope to offer downloads “within weeks”. There will be a price reduction and discounts for Sunbelt users, and discounts for Kerio users on Sunbelt software. Also it looks like the free edition will continue.
This is great news for the “free home/personal use” software firewall market (which was thinning out.) Maybe the field won’t be quite as thin now. I’ve heard great things about Kerio (since it was announced that their personal firewall would be discontinued at the end of December.) Now, maybe I’ll have a chance to try it out and/or recommend it to some of the home users I support.
The folks over at Sunbelt seem to be impressed with the design/coding which is a good sign as well.
The securityfix is on this one too now. This is really good news for home/free personal firewall users (and in turn the internet in general).
