For years, the call has been to open source Java.... it appears that day is, well... coming. Not at hand yet, but for startersJava can now be bundled with Linux distributions.... and is looking for advice on how to get from where they are to open source Java. So it sounds like they're enlisting advice from developers on this and the day will at least be coming that Java will be open source.


One of their concerns is how to do it without fragmentation, which can be the bane of open source ideas as 5 different people disagree on how something should be done, each taking the project off in the direction they believe should be followed. I saw no timetable, essentially just a quote along the lines of "it's not a question of if, but how" (not exact quote, but that's essentially what was said.)
