More Sony lawsuit news... Texas files suit

The security fix is reporting on the latest lawsuit filed against Sony/BMG for the DRM rootkit known as XCP.

"Sony has engaged in a technological version of cloak and dagger deceit against consumers by hiding secret files on their computers," Abbott is quoted as saying in a press release on his official Web site. "Consumers who purchased a Sony CD thought they were buying music. Instead, they received spyware that can damage a computer, subject it to viruses and expose the consumer to possible identity crime."

The suit is seeking $100,000 in penalties for each violation. This would be the first case to be filed under a Texas anti-spyware law. (Of course, this is now the third (and counting...) suit to be filed against sony for the DRM software. If you've missed out on the whole story... try searching the archives for sony. --update 7:24PM EST -- The EFF (Electronic Freedom Foundation) has filed their suit against Sony/BMG and now it looks like the Massachusetts Attorney General could be filing suit as well.... This whole Sony deal has certainly guaranteed full employment for lawyers... (Don't mess with Texas?)
