This should probably go in the Windows tech support category too... but, as I've talked about before I've spent a good amount of time using different linux livecd's. I've even made a few livecd's of my own with Mandrake (now mandriva) linux, using the mklivecd scripts. One of the nice things about a livecd is that it's self contained, portable and relatively secure (any compromise should be able ot be undone by rebooting.) There are linux livecds customized for just about every conceivable use. The ones I did varied from booting to an image slideshow to a full cooker based desktop.

There are more linux livecds than I can sit and count, but as I was browsing online I found this list of linux livecd downloads. It covers over 300 livecds currently and has the cd names, links to download and categorization of the cd. They range from routers and specific uses (gis, medical, educational) to full desktop replacements. If you're looking for linux livecd downloads this is a good place to start.

Linux livecd's can also be used for disaster recovery of failed systems as you get to boot the machine without mounting the existing drives. There are some distributions aimed at antivirus scanning, forensic tools, network analysis.
