So, I've spent a bit of time talking about flightgear. Here are a couple extra resources that I want to "bookmark" here. There is a Good unofficial how-to here. (Mostly linux flightgear oriented. Also, the flightgear scenery is available here. The link is to a grid covered world map. Clicking on a grid quadrant downloads scenery for that quadrant.


Scenery is really just the lay of the land and to a certain degree "land use". Other things, such as buildings and other man made objects are considered "objects" (that makes sense...) There's a good grid of downloadable scenery objects here.

There's also a page that talks about setting up multiple views/multiple monitors to simulate the pilots view here.
Beyond that, there are more planes than those that come with flightgear as well.... There's a good listing of some here. (Of course, more at the official site as well.
