Microsoft may pay for search users?

Infoworld has an interesting article this afternoon, that suggests that Microsoft may pay users of their MSN search out of the ad revenue that Microsoft earns from their new adertising service. Speaking of Google, Bill Gates says...

But they don't share these advertising revenues with the end users who help them get the revenue, Gates said. "Google keeps all of the money with itself," he added.

(Which technically isn't 100% true since adsense publishers get some of the advertising revenue...) However, he says...

In its bid to share revenues with users, Microsoft may give free software or even cash to users, said Gates, who did not discuss further details.

I wonder what Microsoft stock holders think of that plan? (I mean, why not share it as revenue with the company owners in the form of dividends? - I guess they wouldn't have NEARLY as many search users that way.) How much would you pay people to come to your site?
