How-to - NXserver on OpenSUSE

I've played around with NXserver before and been impressed with it's speed (and quality) of remote X desktop over slow connections. It's been about a year since I've actively looked at it, but I found this how-to yesterday from madpenguin. The how-to is related to getting nxserver up and running on OpenSuSE using freenx (a free version of NoMachine's NX server).

The only problem I've run into with freenx-server is recently an old install was tested and seemed to bring down the machine. (Freenx login hadn't been used in a while, it was used to test and within hours the system was frozen.) In all fairness that was an old release, a more recent (read- current) release of the software might solve the problem. Additionally, it may not have been the cause, just a coincidence, but I'm highly suspicious. It seems as though I recall when I actively worked with it that there were problems with an abruptly disconnected connection hanging around in memory, but again, that's been a while... need to test it again with a current release.

In fact, I've seriously thought of moving to a different network design on the home network... something with one really beefy PC (lot's of memory) and everything else as a thick client for most use.) I know that's acheivable without using freenx (plain old X remote login), but... having a slightly more responsive response that nx server/client gives would be nice. (Plus being able to pull the same desktop over a ssh connection over the internet.)

Anyway... yet another thing to look at when I get a chance....
