DSL competitor access to lines ending

Among other sources, media law professors blog notes the FCC's decision to reclassify broadband. Effectively the decision will remove the requirement of phone providers to allow for competitors to have access to their lines for the providing of DSL service.


Perviously, a phone company was required to allow competitors access to the lines to allow competition in the DSL market, so Bellsouth would have to allow SBC for instance to house equipment locally and be able to access the Bellsouth lines to provide service to customers. I'm disappointed to see this end as I think competition ultimately benefits the consumers.

Phone companies must make their lines available to ISP's for the next year.
