Would you trust antispyware that installed adware?

There are a couple stories on spywarecleaner’s recent practice of bundling whenu with the free version of their “antispyware scanner”. According to spyware confidential, SpywareCleaner made the rogue antispyware products list and was delisted after they corrected some “issues”. Now, they’ve been relisted due to the adware bundling of WhenU Save.

sunbeltblog also points us to information about the spywarecleaner/whenu save bundling. How shameless do you have to be to do this? I mean – can you justify it by saying we’ll get rid of your unwanted popups and give you some of our own? Suzi at Spyware COnfidential points out that there are several GOOD, reputable, free antispyware scanners. Ad-aware, Spybot search and destroy, and Windows Defender Beta 2 get mentioned as well as Superantispyware (whcih I haven’t tried yet).

So, please, be careful when choosing antispyware/antivirus downloads.
