The D-Link DWL-800AP+ as a wireless repeater to extend wireless range – Part 2

For starters, I hooked the D-link DWL-800AP+ up and connected it through a crossover cable to my usb network card. That way I could access it exclusively on one adapter and look online for information with the other adapter, which came in quite handy. The first thing I found was that by default the dwl-800ap+ was configured to use 192.168.0.30 as it’s IP address. This one was not configured with the default settings. (Used / via ebay….) So, I did an nmap -sT 192.168.0.* -e eth1 which scanned the whole 192.168.0. list of addresses using my eth1 adapter (as opposed to the default adapter eth0)

That scan turned up the d-link with port 80 open at 192.168.0.32… ok – so it’s not FAR from the default settings. So, I fired up the web browser and entered 192.168.0.32 into the address bar and promptly got the password prompt. The same document that told the default ip address also told the default username was admin with no password. So, I typed admin and clicked ok and was denied access. Hmmm…. there was no note in the shipping box as to what password he had configured, so it was time to figure out how to do a factory reset.

There is a tiny reset hole (under the hole is a button) on the back of the device and WITH THE POWER ON, you are to push and hold the reset button for 10 seconds to restore everything to the factory defaults. (A bent paper clip is usually enough.) I disconnected the network cable, pressed and held the reset button for ~10 seconds and released. I plugged the network cable back in and connected to 192.168.0.30 with the default username of admin (and no password.) The first thing I did was visit the Admin tab of the configuration to change the default password to something of my choosing.
