Scottrade announces compromise that put eCheck secure infromation at risk

The securityfix is reporting that Scottrade, one of the larger online brokers, has announced details of a security compromise that has put a good deal of customer information at risk. It looks as though it is related to the eCheck Secure service for transferring data from personal bank accounts to Scottrade. Scottrades provider for the eCheck Secure service is the Troy Group, Inc.

The Troy group suffered the electronic break in on October 25th. The FBI has been notified and is investigating.

The kind of information at risk follows….

“As a result, some of your personal information, including your name, driver’s license or state ID number, date of birth, phone number, bank name, bank code, bank number, bank routing number, bank account number and Scottrade account number may have been compromised,”

More at the Scottrade site. There is also a recommendation that IF your social-security number serves as a state ID number, or drivers license number that you should file a fraud alert on your credit file to help protect your credit record.

If you are (or have been) a Scottrade customer it’s worth looking into this to make sure through the Scottrade link above.
