VideoC is not a real video player

Sunbeltblog has a story about the “VideoC” video player… apparently they discovered this when visiting a site. A video starts to play and then abruptly stops and claims that “VideoC” player needs to install to view the clip. VideoC is not REALLY a video player just a clever way to get loads of spyware on your system.

Sometimes I wonder at peoples gullability…. I mean, PART of a video clip plays, then claims that a special player is needed to see it ??? (Sounds legit to me ?!?)

Bottom line, be suspicious, stop what you’re doing, open another browser window and do a search for the player that claims to be necessary. A Google search for videoc player brings up (as the first hit an article that doesn’t sound too flattering.

In other words it’s usually a good idea to know what you’re installing. If you’ve never heard of it before, look and see if you can find anything about it. Don’t just go along for the ride or who knows where you’ll wind up…
