Debian based distros pursuing LSB standards?

It sounds as though the distributions of Linux based on debian are trying to define a standard base to work from. It looks as though the disunity among various debian derivitives has prompted a move to unify and work towards LSB (Linux Standards Base) compliance to improve their standing compared to other distributions.

One item that was noted in the article was disappointment with support from a certain big linux vendor (Red Hat / Novell?) and the observation that debian is typically one of the most deployed linux distributions after Red Hat and Novell’s SuSe. It would be great to see a standard’s base applied to all the debian derivitives out there (linspire, mepis, xandros) Unfortunately at this point in time it looks as though Ubuntu is staying out of this agreement.
