Phishing – Bank of the West Notice part three… (deeper sigh)

You’ll notice I haven’t mentioned the URL of the phishing site thus far. That is, in part, because I feel as though it would be irresponsible. That someone might come across this and take advantage of the fact that the site is still up and running to harvest account information. I would like to think that wouldn’t happen, but hey, that’s why the site is there to begin with. Well, 72 hours and still no action.

I’m beginning to understand now the attitudes of some White Hat hackers that “take the law into their own hands” to get something done. I’ve contacted abuse@bankofthewest.com as well now and am trying to figure out who else to report for action against the site. Several places that I’ve found seem to be mainly for keeping a database of phishing scams, I don’t see evidence that they have any greater ability to get them shut down than going through the usual channels. I’m also not sure if this is something that the FBI should be contacted with or not. I did find a fraud report form that was multi-step and looked to be 10 minutes worth of filling out of all sorts of information. If there’s no action by this time tomorrow that may be the best path.
