Google Moon

For some time now, I’ve used Google Maps fairly extensively. I love the ability to drag the street maps around and the inclusion of Satellite imagery has been absolutely fantastic and at the same time a bit scary. Of course there’s the ability to do local searches on the map with pushpins of a sort tagging the search hits. Very nice. I’ve even seen gps overlays and ways to pull gps coordinates from a map. Anyway…
Today I saw a news post somewhere that there was a new twist Google Moon Since July 20th was the anniversary of the first moon landing in 1969, Google has cooked up a tribute of sorts. If you follow the link above you’ll find a nice satellite image of the moon with an overlay of the moon landing sites. (And if you zoom in completely you’ll discover something that many people have speculated about for some time…) They don’t have complete imagery it looks like, but it is a fairly good start. (No road info yet… so I guess we can’t see how far some of the buggies traveled there…) It would also be interesting to see an overlay of the different crater names.

Of course they joke about rolling out local search for Google Moon in 2069 for the 100th anniversary of the first manned moon landing.

I suspect I’m not the only person out there that looked to see if there was a mars.google.com Maybe just a matter of time?
